Units to mL converter (U-100 syringe)

Type units or mL and pick your syringe size.

On a U-100 syringe, 100 units = 1 mL, so 1 unit = 0.01 mL

This does arithmetic on the numbers you type. It doesn't suggest a dose. Check the result with your prescriber or pharmacist.

Worked example

35 units is 0.35 mL. 0.6 mL is 60 units. A 0.5 mL syringe stops at 50 units, so 0.6 mL needs a 1 mL syringe or two draws.

How the math works

mL = units ÷ 100, and units = mL × 100, because U-100 means 100 units in each mL. The 0.3, 0.5 and 1 mL syringes share that scale and stop at 30, 50 and 100 units.

It's the same code the PepBloom app runs, and it runs in your browser. Nothing you type leaves this page.

What's the difference between U-40 and U-100 syringes?

They use different scales. A U-100 syringe has 100 units in 1 mL. A U-40 syringe, made for U-40 insulins such as some pet insulins, has 40 units in 1 mL (Vetsulin label).

So 40 units on a U-40 syringe is 1 mL, which reads 100 units on a U-100 syringe. Use the syringe your pharmacy label names; the Vetsulin label warns that any other syringe gives the wrong amount.

Questions

How many units is 1 mL?

100 units on a U-100 syringe.

Is 10 units 0.1 mL?

Yes, on a U-100 syringe. Each unit is 0.01 mL.

Can people mix up units and mL?

Yes, and FDA has reported it. In one case people told to draw 5 units drew 50, which is 0.5 mL instead of 0.05 mL.
